FAQ

Privacy screen protectors, answered.

Micro-louvers laminated inside the glass narrow the viewing angle. Head-on you see a normal display; beyond about 25° off-centre the screen goes dark, so a seatmate on a plane or the next desk over sees a black panel. It defeats side glances — someone directly behind you on your own sightline still shares your view.

Dimmer by design — that's the effect working — about 62% transmittance versus 92–95% on clear glass, so most people run brightness a notch or two higher. Privacy Shield Ultra is grid-free Soft-Light: unlike cheap privacy film there's no mesh or black-dot pattern, and the head-on picture stays clean.

The protection axis rotates with the phone. In portrait it blocks viewers to your left and right; turn the phone to landscape and it blocks above and below instead, so people beside you can see again. If landscape privacy is your main need, a two-way filter is the wrong tool.

They do different jobs. Samsung's built-in mode is software-toggled per app; Privacy Shield Ultra is always-on, narrower (dark beyond about 25°) and adds 12 ft drop protection. Running both stacks the dimming, so pick one: the built-in for per-app control, the glass for privacy on every screen without a toggle. On the S25 Ultra, which has no built-in mode, the glass is the only option.

On the iPhone 16 Pro and 17 Pro Face ID sits in the Dynamic Island cutout, which stays clear. On the iPhone 18 Pro Apple moved the sensor under the display, and privacy louvres are the layer owners most often report interfering — mainly in dim light. Re-enrol Face ID after installing and test in the dark and at an angle; if Face ID reliability is your top priority, choose one of our clear protectors instead. On Galaxy, the glass is designed for Samsung's ultrasonic sensor: re-register your fingerprints after installing.

Both. Privacy Shield Ultra is 9H+ aerospace glass, 12 ft drop-rated, 3X shockproof, MIL-STD-810H, with full-edge coverage and 3X edge strengthening — the same protection as our clear Shield Ultra glass, with the privacy layer laminated inside. It cracks no more easily than clear glass; like every tempered protector it's sacrificial, which is why it ships as a 2-pack.

Smudges show more on a darker screen, so the glass carries a Tora-Silk anti-fingerprint coating — swipes glide and marks wipe off in one pass.

iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max, 17 Pro / Pro Max, 16 Pro / Pro Max, and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and S26 Ultra, each cut 1:1 and case-friendly so it fits under any of our cases. Select your exact model.

Commuters, open-plan offices, and anyone handling banking, patient or client data on a train or in a café. Most people prefer clear glass, and that's fine — this is a tool for people whose screen is regularly beside strangers. Software can't replace it: limiting who sees your display from the side means physically filtering light at the glass, and no setting does that.
