"Did we know that the official Apple iPhone Duo case was using sticky pads?" an r/iPhoneDuo member asked in a thread that drew 177 comments. Their case had just arrived "lined with sticky strips," and Apple's product page talks about magnets. The same story hit r/apple, r/iphone and 9to5Mac within a day. If you're picking an iPhone Duo case now, or already own an iPhone Duo screen protector, the adhesive question decides what you buy and in what order you install it.
Below is what Apple's page says and what owners found, why a foldable case needs adhesive, which designs avoid it, and how to install and remove one without leaving residue on the titanium.
The short answer
Yes. Apple's $79 iPhone Duo Case attaches with adhesive strips, and most two-piece Duo cases that frame the outer screen need adhesive too.
- Apple's page never mentions adhesive. Its "built-in magnets" line sits next to the MagSafe charging copy. Owners and two tech sites found peel-off strips inside the case.
- The case is polycarbonate, not silicone. Headlines call it silicone. Apple's page says "polycarbonate with a matte coating."
- The front half of a Duo has nothing to grip. The inner screen runs to the edge, so a case can't wrap a lip over it. A piece that frames the outer screen has to stick on.
- Want no adhesive? Choose a design with no front frame, or a magnetic folio, and confirm the attachment method before you buy.
- Put your outer-screen protector on first. Peeling an adhesive frame back off to fix a crooked protector weakens the strips.
Does Apple's iPhone Duo case use adhesive?
Yes. Apple's two-part, $79 iPhone Duo Case comes with peel-off adhesive strips, even though its product page only mentions magnets.
Apple's listing, as of October 19, 2026, describes "a two-part case" that is "thin and light, wrapping around both sides of iPhone Duo to protect it from front to back." The next paragraph reads: "With built-in magnets that align perfectly with iPhone Duo, this case offers a magical attach experience and faster wireless charging, every time." The page doesn't mention adhesive anywhere, and the box contents list only "iPhone Duo Case."
Owners read that line as "it attaches with magnets." The magnets are for MagSafe: the same sentence goes on to faster wireless charging, and the next one tells you to "snap on a MagSafe charger." One commenter in the r/iPhoneDuo thread put it this way: "apples product page doesn't mention tape and talks about magnets. There is indeed sticky tape."
Two hands-on reports confirm it. TechEBlog, on October 16, described the setup as you "peel off a sticky film, placing each piece in place, and pressing down firmly." 9to5Mac, citing a photo Parker Ortolani posted the same day, wrote that "Apple decided to opt for adhesives rather than using magnets." Both point out the catch for anyone who swaps cases: the strips are secure once on, but 9to5Mac notes the adhesive "wouldn't be as effective after you take it off."
One more correction to the headlines: most coverage calls it the "silicone case." Apple's page says the case is "made from polycarbonate with a matte coating," in Navy Blue and Sand. The other first-party option, the $129 iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand, is TechWoven fabric.
Why do iPhone Duo cases need adhesive?
A normal case holds on by wrapping a lip over the edge of the screen. On a Duo, the inner face of each half is the folding display, so there's no edge to wrap over.
A one-piece iPhone case is a tray. The phone sits in it and a thin lip curls over the front edge, so the case can't slide off the back. The iPhone Duo is two slabs joined by a hinge. Apple lists it at 5.2 mm thick unfolded and 11.3 mm folded. The inside of both halves is the 7.6-inch folding screen, and it has to stay uncovered for the phone to close flat.
That leaves each case piece only the side walls of a 5.2 mm slab to hold. The camera half has a full back panel and some side wall to grip. The outer-screen half is the hard one: its outside is the 5.4-inch display, so a case piece there can only be a frame around the screen. A thin frame with nothing to clip over needs something holding it in place, and on most foldables that is adhesive.
None of this is new. Samsung and Google foldable owners have dealt with adhesive cases for years, which is why one r/iPhoneDuo reply read simply: "All folds need it unless a all in one case." What changed is that Apple's own case does it too, and nothing on the listing says so.
Is there an iPhone Duo case with no adhesive?
Possibly, but look for one of two designs: a case with no frame on the outer-screen half, or a folio that closes over the front. Then check how that specific case attaches.
The adhesive goes where a case covers the outer-screen half. Leave that half bare and there is less to stick. A folio takes a different route: TechEBlog's hands-on says Apple's Folio is "simply kept on by magnets," though Apple's own page doesn't spell out how it attaches. Each design protects different parts of the phone:
| Case design | What it covers | How it usually attaches | Easy to swap? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two-piece with a front frame (Apple's $79 case) | Camera half plus a frame around the outer screen | Adhesive strips, at least on the front frame | No; the strips lose grip after removal |
| No front frame | Camera half and hinge; outer-screen half left bare | Grips the camera half; ask the maker about the rest | Easier, if no adhesive is used |
| Magnetic folio (Apple's $129 Folio) | Back plus a cover over the outer screen | Magnets, per TechEBlog's hands-on | Yes, if it's magnetic only |
| No case | Nothing; Apple lists a Grade 5 titanium frame and hinge cover | None | n/a |
One caution about the rumor mill. The "no adhesive" threads are full of secondhand claims. One owner in r/iPhoneDuo wrote that they "thought I read somewhere" a case had no adhesive, only to find strips when it arrived. Before you buy, check the listing or ask the seller how the front piece stays on. If neither says, assume adhesive.
What about TORRAS iPhone Duo cases?
Our two Duo cases use different designs. The Ostand Q3 Spin frames the outer screen, and an owner reports adhesive on that frame. The Ostand Q3 VegSkin has no front frame.
The Ostand Q3 Spin is a two-piece case with a raised 1.2 mm lip around the screen, a ribbed hinge cover, and a 360° rotating ring stand that props it at 30–90° in portrait and 15–165° in landscape. One owner who posted theirs in r/iPhoneDuo wrote: "It's two pieces and unfortunately does use adhesive for the front frame." That matches how front frames work on foldables. Our listing doesn't state the attachment method, so take that owner's word over any assumption, ours included. If you want a framed outer screen and a built-in stand, it does that job, and it's rated for 8 ft drops.

The Ostand Q3 VegSkin takes the other route. It covers the camera half and the hinge in organic silicone fabric, with 1.2 mm raised lips around the screen and camera, and leaves the outer-screen half without a frame. Our OrigArmor listing calls it a "no-front-frame" case and pairs the two for that reason: there's no case edge pressing on the protector. It has the same 360° ring stand, an 18N+ N52 magnet array for MagSafe and Qi2 charging up to 25W, and an 8 ft drop rating.

Should the screen protector go on before or after the case?
Before. Install the outer-screen protector on the bare phone, check it for dust and alignment, then fit any adhesive frame.
Once an adhesive frame is pressed on, fixing a crooked or dusty protector means peeling the frame back off, and each removal costs the strips some of their grip. Installing glass inside a fitted frame is also harder: alignment trays are built around the phone's own edges, and a frame covers them. The order that wastes nothing:
- Clean the outer screen and install the protector with its alignment tool.
- Wait a few minutes and check the edges for dust or lift. Fix it now, while nothing else is stuck on.
- Fit the camera-half piece, then the front piece. For a case with strips, follow its insert: peel the film, place it, press it down firmly.
- Open and close the phone a few times and check that nothing touches the hinge or the protector's edge.
Glass with a slim edge helps with any frame. Our HD Shield Case-Friendly protector for the Duo is cut 1:1 with "slim edges with no bulky black border" that sit clear of case lips, and our OrigArmor Duo glass covers 98.3% of the 5.4-inch outer screen with an anti-reflective coating rated at 0.8% reflectivity or less. If you'd rather buy once, the Fold Ready Kit puts the VegSkin case, OrigArmor glass and a LensGuard camera protector in one box for 15% less than buying them separately.

Will case adhesive damage the iPhone Duo's titanium or glass?
Apple hasn't said either way. The practical risk is sticky residue when the case comes off, which a gentle clean removes.
Apple lists the Duo with a "Titanium foldable design," Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and Ceramic Shield on the back. It hasn't published guidance on case adhesive for the Duo, and we won't guess at long-term effects on the finish. What owners describe is residue. One r/iPhoneDuo commenter worried that over time "those case adhesives will likely leave marks or residue on the titanium frame," and other owners in the same threads cite reviewers who found the adhesive sticky after removal.
Apple's general iPhone cleaning guidance covers the cleanup: a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe, 75 percent ethyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes "may gently wipe the exterior surfaces." It also says not to use anything with bleach or hydrogen peroxide, to keep moisture out of openings, and to finish with a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. That page doesn't list the Duo by name yet, so treat it as the closest guidance Apple has published, not a Duo-specific instruction.
How do you remove an adhesive iPhone Duo case?
Slowly, from a corner, with your fingers and no metal tools. Then wipe off any residue with an isopropyl wipe.
- Power off and fold the phone closed. Then the inner screen is shut away and you're only handling the outside.
- Start at a corner of the front piece. Lift it with a fingernail or a plastic card. Don't pry with anything metal against titanium or glass.
- Peel along the edge, not straight up. A slow, low-angle peel lets the strip release instead of tearing and leaving more of itself behind.
- Remove the camera-half piece the same way if it's also stuck on.
- Clean the residue. Rub gently with a 70 percent isopropyl wipe, keep it away from the speaker, port and button openings, and finish with a damp lint-free cloth.
Can you reuse an adhesive iPhone Duo case?
You can put it back on, but expect a weaker hold each time. If you swap cases often, an adhesive design isn't for you.
That was the most common complaint in the threads. "I always have a few cases for my iPhones, swapping them weekly isn't going to be possible with adhesive pads," one owner wrote. TechEBlog's early adopters called the adhesive "secure once in place but a hassle to change around." Apple's page doesn't mention replacement strips. If you like to take the case off to clean the phone every week or two, as one commenter in the thread about our Spin case said they do, choose a no-front-frame or folio design instead.
FAQ
Does the Apple iPhone Duo case have adhesive?
Yes. Apple's $79 iPhone Duo Case comes with adhesive strips that you peel and press on, according to owners and hands-on reports from TechEBlog and 9to5Mac. Apple's product page mentions built-in magnets for MagSafe alignment and charging, but says nothing about adhesive.
Is the Apple iPhone Duo case silicone?
No. News headlines call it the silicone case, but Apple's product page says it is "made from polycarbonate with a matte coating." It comes in Navy Blue and Sand for $79. Apple's other Duo case, the $129 Folio with Kickstand, is made of TechWoven fabric.
Is there an iPhone Duo case without adhesive?
Look at designs without a frame on the outer-screen half, or at magnetic folios. TechEBlog reports Apple's Folio is held on by magnets. Many threads repeat secondhand claims, so check the listing or ask the maker how the front piece attaches. If neither says, assume adhesive.
Should I put the screen protector on before the case?
Yes. Install and check the outer-screen protector on the bare phone first, then fit the case. Fixing a protector after an adhesive frame is on means peeling the frame off again, and each removal weakens the strips.
Will the adhesive leave residue on my iPhone Duo?
It can. Owners report sticky residue when the case comes off. Apple's general iPhone cleaning guidance allows a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe on exterior surfaces, with no bleach or hydrogen peroxide and no moisture in the openings, followed by a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
Do TORRAS iPhone Duo cases use adhesive?
The Ostand Q3 Spin frames the outer screen, and an owner on r/iPhoneDuo reports its front frame uses adhesive. The Ostand Q3 VegSkin has no front frame and leaves the outer-screen half bare. Our listings don't state the attachment method, so ask us before you buy if it matters.
